Mr
Kikwete made the observation after a tour at the 40th Dar es Salaam
International Trade Fair (DITF) at the Dar es Salaam International Trade
Fair (DITF) grounds, which officially closed its doors yesterday.
“I have observed that the quality of
products by local entrepreneurs, particularly women, has kept on
improving each year,” the former head of state remarked.
Adding; “The major challenge facing the
entrepreneurs is lack of reliable market and limited production to meet
required demand.”
On the other hand, Mr Kikwete who is
also the Chancellor of the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM), hailed
the oldest higher institution of learning in the country for exhibiting
results of researches conducted at the varsity.
“The UDSM remains with its reputation as
an outstanding institution of higher learning and this can be
manifested through their exhibitions at the trade fair. “Now that the
researches have been conducted, it is high time the results are put in
industrial production,” Mr Kikwete said when briefing journalists at the
UDSM pavilion.
The former president also showered
praises on organisers of the trade fair for improved exhibitions each
year. “I have been impressed by the organisers of the fair and
exhibitors as well, products are well arranged and I can tell the
exhibitions have been improving every year,” Mr Kikwete told
journalists.
Dr Kikwete visited over ten pavilions at
the trade fair, including the Tanzania Prisons Department, Tanzania
Petroleum Development Corporation (TPDC), UDSM, Small Industries
Development Organisation (SIDO) and the Vocational Education and
Training Authority (VETA).
